We’ve already discussed the popularity of neutral colours for cabinetry and benchtops but there is also a trend towards adding a point of difference through statement features in the kitchen. This could be through bold colours or interesting patterns in the splashbacks or the use of colourful vases or floral arrangements. Mirrored splashbacks are another popular feature which has the added advantage of adding the feeling of space.
With a potential layout in mind, turning attention to the more decorative and aesthetically pleasing elements of a kitchen make perfect sense. In order to really capture the right finished look, it's essential to spend as much time as possible looking at already completed kitchen projects, for inspiration. Online scrapbooking sites are a great way to not only look at plenty of projects, but also save particular images as reference material to show a kitchen planner or carpenter.
Quality stone and wooden worktops are the standard choices for the country style kitchen. Should you pick stone, avoid options too bold or shiny, as these generally don’t go too well with the rustic look. Granite, for example, can style up a country kitchen perfectly if it’s in a natural shade like brown or cream, but avoid black.
