Installing a sky light in the kitchen / directly above the dining table can also ensure more natural lighting. For artificial lighting, subtle under-cabinet strips can make that open-plan kitchen bright and welcoming. For the rest of the room, simple ceiling lighting, as well as a table/floor lamp or wall sconces, should be adequate.
We’ve already discussed the popularity of neutral colours for cabinetry and benchtops but there is also a trend towards adding a point of difference through statement features in the kitchen. This could be through bold colours or interesting patterns in the splashbacks or the use of colourful vases or floral arrangements. Mirrored splashbacks are another popular feature which has the added advantage of adding the feeling of space.
